The seventh and eighth grade classes from East St. John Elementary in LaPlace enjoyed touring the River Road African American Museum in November. Over 110 children participated in the drum and dance demonstrations and visited with Alvin Batiste at Rossie’s.

Dave Dubreuil accepts a plaque of appreciation from our Mayor Leroy Sullivan for his dedication and determination in lighting up Donaldsonville for the Christmas season. As Mr. Dubreuil accepted the award, he was quick to thank his posse of helpers. He is winning awards on the decorating committee and getting bumped off the finance committee. He has become a regular at City Council meetings.

Fifty ladies from Jefferson Parish enjoyed viewing four homes on the ASHA Christmas on the Bayou, Tour of Homes, Wednesday, December 6th. The group had overnight accommodations at the Best Western. Thursday they visited with Alvin Batiste at Rossie’s, shopped til they dropped at Cabahanosse’s, enjoyed Bloody Mary’s at Caffe’ Deville, and lunch at Cypress Café. They totally enjoyed their day in our Historic District.

Anthony Marcello and Kirk P. Landry tape a commercial for Caffe’ Deville at KKAY-AM radio station. Harry Hoyler is working the board.

CHRISTMAS SEASON PARADED INTO D’VILLE

Troy’s mother, Chris LeBoeuf, was at Wal-Mart at 5:00AM waiting for the “day after Thanksgiving” bargains. Chris said there were people actually waiting for the doors to open. She waited in her car due to the cold weather.

Out of town dignitary, Pie Queen Belinda Falcon, along with her daughter Emily, lunched at the Cypress Café with Chamber Director Vera Sanchez and Chamber member Kirk P. Landry. The occasion was Vera’s birthday. Belinda and Emily enjoyed the day on the Avenue. As for Vera’s birthday, all I can safely say is her age ends with a zero. You do the math.

A ribbon cutting attended by Chamber Directors and city officials officially opened the new location of Community Acceptance. The forty-one year old business has re-located to 317 Railroad Avenue, formally X-ray Drug Store. Donald Alleman, manager, is joined with his wife Debbie and sons, Tyler and Corey. His staff includes Tamika Veal, Henry Jenkins, and Jessica Gros.

Volunteering your home or B & B for the tour of homes makes you finish those projects you have been meaning to get around to. For instance the picket fence at The Victorian. As Kent built it, Donna decorated it.
