The Amazing Kreskin predicts that the Baton Rouge area will become a tourist mecca. Well Kreskin, you are a little late with your prediction. Donaldsonville will celebrate its 200th birthday this year and we are expecting tourists from all over the country to come and visit our little piece of heaven. We’ve got it all. Our history is rich. Our historic district is large. Our river is mighty. We serve great food brought from all the regions of the world. Our people are warm and friendly. So Kreskin, thanks for telling the world something we have always known. Invite your family and friends to celebrate 200 years of history with us.

Last year was a busy one for everyone. We dedicated a new Super Walmart, a new Walgreens, a LeBlanc’s Payless, two strip shopping centers, and several new businesses. Best of all, our existing businesses are doing well and committed to this community.

Don’t forget we had those two ladies come for a visit. Katrina and Rita were no ladies. However, they made us realize how blessed we were in the Donaldsonville area. We had little damage to our community. We saw the strength of our people helping others. Whatever they were called to do, they did willingly, expecting nothing in return.

This year we look forward to a new Wendy’s and a new location for Movie Gallery and several other things in the works. We are seeing houses refurbished in the historic district and outside investors interested in our community.

The location for the largest Cargo Center in the country will be decided this year. The opportunity of thousand of jobs for our state will be decided in the next few months. The opportunities for our children to live and work here will be realized.
