It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas as the city “elves” are busy with the Christmas decorations.

The Chamber of Commerce proudly announces the wedding of Jo Totora and Elvin Hicks. The wedding took place in Gulf Shores, Alabama the weekend of the Sunshine Festival. Now we know why Jo couldn’t help us out that weekend. The couple surprised family and friends by “running off to the altar (or beach) for their nuptials. We welcome Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Hicks to our Chamber family.

Board members of the River Road African American Museum attended a board retreat at Hemingbough in St. Francisville on October 22nd. Pictured are Janice Linton, Darryl Hambrick, Terrie Julien, Debbie Peltier, Deloris Scieneaux, Charles Fuller, Valerie Jackson-Jones, Kathe Hambrick, and Harold Hambrick.

Dr. Dolores Walters, as Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Northern Kentucky University, conducted a genealogy workshop at the Ascension Parish Library on November 9th. The workshop provided demonstrations on how to trace your family’s history. Workshop participants had hands-on computer use to perform their own ancestral searches using genealogy databases. Dr. Walters has conducted several history workshops for the nationwide network of affiliates called Freedom Stations for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
