Julie Belafonte visited with Mayor Leroy Sullivan and Kathe Hambrick at the River Road African American Museum in early August while touring New Orleans for an upcoming international film project of slavery and sugar cane in our area. Julie who is the wife of Harry Belafonte, was a dancer with the renowned Katherine Dunham Dance Troup in the 1950’s. Mrs. Belafonte received the key to our city.



The Ascension Heritage Association held its annual Membership Banquet Setpember 25, at Palazzo Bernardo’s with Kevin Kelly of the Houmas House as their guest speaker. ASHA president is Pam Gregoire.



It’s Christmas time at Cabahanosse. Karen and Kay are helping us get a jump on the Christmas rush with tons and tons of new invertory arriving daily. The Cabahanosse Christmas Open House will be Thursday, November 2nd thru Sunday, November 5th from 10:00AM until 6:00PM. Complimentary Christmas beverages and treats will be served while you shop.





The annual joint luncheon of the Donaldsonville Chamber of Commerce and the Ascension Chamber was held at Palazzo Bernardo’s in September. Over 100 chamber members attended the event.




The Grapevine Cafe and Gallery is sharing its lovely interior wall space so that Baton Rouge photographer Amy James can take visitors to “Clynglas”. Amy grew up on the shores of Lake Darbonne spending much of her summers there as a child. Clynglas , a special place on the iron ore and red clay shores of Lake Darbonne, is the name of her family’s original homeplace there. The opening reception was held September 15th.
