The Angels bring Brad to D' ville

Believing in angels is not just child play, according to Susan Jumonville and Lisa Vermillion authors of a children’s book, “Hurricane Katrina Brought Angels Too!”

When our community welcomed Brad Pitt to film part of the movie “Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” our town was all in a buzz, and of course everyone wanted to see Brad or at best take a picture of the star. Speaking to Brad’s bodyguard he said, “It is in Brad’s contract that while he is filming he is not allowed to speak to the bystanders.”

Susan and Lisa believe in angels that get them through many places. And so it was on that day, Susan wanted Mr. Pitt to have their book for his children since he recently moved to New Orleans. Their angels were off flying ahead of the two ladies. While others were scrambling to sneak a peek of Brad, Susan, Lisa and Kristen were at his dressing room door. The angels had done their work.

Susan said, “Mr. Pitt seemed very kind and looked pretty darn good.” He thanked them for the book allowing them to take some pictures. The three ladies walked away with smiles on their faces.

Next time you really want to do what others say is impossible, just remember your angels. It wouldn’t hurt to ask.

Serving on the planning committee for the Art, Antiques, and Authors on the Avenue event are Danielle Doyle, Donna Schexnaydre, Tammy Dale, Karen Hartman, and Malcolm Dugas, Chamber president.
The Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a weekend of art, antiques, and authors on the Avenue April 14th and 15th. Chamber member Danielle Doyle (High Standards Electric) and Chamber director, Karen Hartman (Plantation Antiques) are co-hosting the event.

Antiques, collectibles, books, and art work will be displayed for sale. Booth space is available. Live music will be performed throughout the day. Food and beverages will be sold.

“We have contacted over forty vendors so far,” states Danielle Doyle. “This is something I have always wanted to see since we have moved here. It’s the perfect location.”

The ASHA Museum will house the vendor’s booths. The food and music will be at Crescent Park. Chamber member Steve Schneider (The Grapevine) is assisting with the design work for the poster, the music, and the artwork.

Anyone interested in having a booth for collectibles, antiques, or food please give the Chamber office a call at 225 473-4814. A consignment booth is planned should you have one or two items at home you would like to sell. We will have more details in the March issue of THE CHAMBER VOICE.

Time capsule will kick-off parish bicentennial

A time capsule will be buried in Louisiana Square and a reception will be held to kick-off the Parish Bicentennial event on Thursday, April 5th at 4:00PM.

“With Donaldsonville as the Parish seat it is only natural for us to open the Bicentennial event in our oldest city,” states Mayor Leroy Sullivan. “We have been meeting with representatives from Parish President Ronnie Hughes’ office, Betty Robert and Sherry Kinchen, along with Becky Katz and Debbie Peltier of the Chamber. I am positive they will present a memorable event that our city is proud to host.”
