The topic of the article was “Ten Iconic Vacations In America” and guess what one of those iconic vacations include? You got it! Donaldsonville. Well that wasn’t the original plan for Adam Skolnick, pictured right, when he contacted me and asked for suggestions on things to do outside of New Orleans to include in his writings. Well where else can one experience the history and heritage of Louisiana better than in Donaldsonville. So I immediately started sending emails and making phone calls and within a day I had planned a seventy-two hour trip for Adam. I felt one of the most important aspects was for him to spend the night in Donaldsonville and connect him with people who could discuss vital topics including history, art, cuisine and culture. Adam is a free-lance travel writer and his assignment was for Lonely Planet magazine. Lonely Planet has inspired and guided independent travellers to explore the world around them and are all about on-the-ground research and no-holds-barred opinion. And that is just what Adam did. I personally think we will see Adam again, but this time it will be to reconnect with the wonderful people he met. Best Western Hotels hosted an Open House and Chamber Day in June to highlight the renovations of the facility. Sixty-one rooms received a complete face-lift with new paint and carpet to the guest rooms and hallways. The lobby and breakfast room received new tile floors. All of the bedrooms now have new bed linens and comforters
Many Chamber members enjoyed the tour and the lunch provided by Bernardo’s. “We are pleased with the renovations. It has given our hotel a fresh and updated look. We were very pleased with the turn out and support from the Chamber on our open house and Chamber Day,” stated Melissa Breaux, director of sales and purchasing.
