Area secretaries were treated to the Chamber’s Big Give to celebrate Secretaries Day, April 23, 2008 at Café Lafourche. Event Chairwoman, Vera Sanchez, opened the luncheon explaining to the ladies why they were so lucky.

“First, you all have jobs. Second, your employer thinks enough of you to celebrate this day treating you to the Big Give. And third, you are employed by a company that realizes the importance of being a part of the largest and oldest business organization, the Donaldsonville Chamber of Commerce,” stated Vera.

With Oprah’s Big Give on prime time television, seed money is given to a group of people. They have to build upon that amount and award the prize to a needy individual or group. The Chamber planned The Big Give a little differently. Vera was provided with a cell phone and the membership list in The Chamber Voice. With a zero budget, Vera managed to collect over $2000.00 in Chamber gift certificates and numerous door prizes. The gift certificates are to be used at Chamber businesses.

The hour luncheon was filled with door prizes for every one in attendance. Anthony Marcello provided the music.

This annual event could not be possible without the businesses that sponsor the door prizes and the hard work of the committee and Chamber staff.
