How do you spell relief? ROTC. This entergetic group of students from DHS helped collect at the gates the weekend of the Sunshine Festival. The Chamber would like to thank Major Bailey and this wonderful group of students. The River Road African American Museum honored “the ladies of jazz” during its annual Jazz on the Avenue concert series Sunday, October 12th. The event featured the sultry sounds of New Orleans jazz vocalist Leah Chase and soothing vocals of Lawand Johnson the Herman Jackson Trio. Chase is a second-generation musician and daughter of New Orleans restaurateurs Dooky Chase Jr. and Leah Chase.

Over one thousand youths descended upon our streets as part of the World Youth Day Celebration. The Witness Walk and Pilgrimage traveled through the streets and neighborhoods of our city to Louisiana Square and the DHS Football Stadium where special presentations and activities were held.

Donna Schexnyder and Ben Glueck, Financial Advisors with Edward Jones, conducted a seminar at City Hall on Wednesday, October 29, 2008. Topics of discussion included previous market cycles and recessions, issues including inflation and real estate, and current opportunities for long-term investors.  
   

     
image Cabahanosse Christmas ladies, Kay Dugas and Karen Hartman finish the last minute details on one of the Cabahanosse Christmas trees. Cabahanosse held it Christmas Open House October 30 thru November 2, 2008. Eighteen individual shops are offered under one roof with a multitude of merchandise for holiday shopping. A four suite bed and breakfast is also available for those out-of-town Christmas guests.
